The racing continues...

This Sunday is the first race of the Centennial Criterium Series organized by Berger Hardware, Independent Fabrication, and the NCSU Cycling Club. Criterium races are short, closed course races that are based on time rather than distance. They are super fun, both to watch and to race. Crits are fun because even if you are not battling it out for first you are still in an epic life and death battle against the guy who is just in front of you. When your round turn 4 on the last lap of the race, wether its for 1st or 50th, you'll dig deep and see what you're made of!!!! Its fun!!!!

This is an awesome opportunity for first time racers to get exposed to this style of racing. Its cheap ($15), its fun (thrills and spills baby!), and its right in town (no gas money)!

The C class, new riders, starts at 9am. Show up a bit early to register and get warmed up and then stay for the B and A races to see how the veterins race.

Check out the flyer for more details.

Come out to race or come out to watch!!!!!!!

We want thank all of the sponsors and volunteers for coming out and contributing to making this race a success.

Thank you to all of the 120 racers that came out and showed their love for the city of oaks and for cycling! 120 people on bikes looking for a good time is a beautiful thing!

1st- Pher
2nd- Dina
3rd- Layne

There are tons of photos and video to come so check back soon for those.

A special thanks is in order for all of these sponsors:

Tom from Allstar always comes through with sweet prizes and we appreciate him for it

Michael Man made some amazing custom saddles that he donated as prizes. You can reach him at 919.986.1531 if you are interested in a sweet seat.

Chris Powers, owner of the Busy Bee, really helped out with the afterparty. If you were wondering who you addressed and mailed that postcard to it was him, and he thanks you for it. And we thank him for helping out by sending him 120 postcards in the mail!!!! Thanks Chris!!!!!

Blair from Aviator hooked us up with some tastey beer for the afterparty

New Raleigh brought alot of attention to the race when they posted about it

Urban Velo supplied us with some internet press and mags

Bens Cycle gave us plenty of amazing prizes

Ca
fe Helios and Raleigh Times donated gift cards

Thien, Smedium, and Spclgst came through with the music for the afterparty

Adam from Ahpeele really helped us out by not only letting us use his spot for the afterparty but he also allowed us to screen print the manifest. Be sure to check out his store and be on the lookout for upcoming events at his space.

A special thanks is in order for Sean O'neal who graceously donated his time and motorcycle sidecar for filming the race. Sean pushed it to the limit so I could get some amazing shots and his motorcyle paid the price. About an hour into the race a hose melted and brought the beast to a stop. Sean was more worried about getting the rest of the race filmed than he was about his bike. Lucky for us Paxton was nearby with his scooter, told me to hop on the back and the filming continued. Thanks again Sean for making this race so much fun for everyone.

Paxton really came through with his scooter for the entire second half of the race. Thanks again brother!!!

We'll have both photo stops posted online soon so check back soon for those.

Thanks again to all the riders that came out and made the Raleigh Cat the biggest race in Raleigh history!!!!!

You guys fucking rock!

Get Prepared, Be Prepared...

We here at the Raleigh Boys Club we love to have a good time and we want everyone else to have a good time too which is why we are throwing the biggest bike race and after party, on Sunday July 12th, this town has ever seen.

But that isn't what we are here to talk about today.

Today we are here to talk about being prepared.

The Raleigh Boys Club wants to remind everyone that putting in a little saddle time now will pay off big time come race day. The more time you spend on your bike, the more prepared you'll be for some of the awesomeness we have planned for Sunday July 12th and being prepared is the name of the game.

Lets take a look at this video and see what we can learn about being prepared,

First things first, that guy deserved to be cut loose, you shouldn't ever wear a 3 inch wide leather bracelet while climbing, or ever for that matter. Secondly, Chris O'Donnell should have learned from Batman Forever that he has to stay on the ground if his friends and family want to survive the movie. Thirdly if O'Donnell had been mentally prepared for that stressful situation he never would have forgotten the "Bro's before Ho's" mantra and immediately cut that girl from her rope instead of the guy, saving the audience from listening to her annoying voice any longer.

Even the Raleigh Boys Club can learn from O'Donnell's mistakes. We reached our vertical limit the other night while trying to nail one of the housemates with water balloons as he was coming home from work. We carefully orchestrated an attack that included 4 sharpshooters, each loaded with over 15 water balloons, in strategic locations creating a perimeter with no chance of escape and with optimal hit potential. The prep work took around 2 hrs and despite the weather going against us we decided to continue with the attack.

The plan was simple, the target would arrive, we would stun the target by turning on headlights directly behind him which he would turn to investigate. Once the target was distracted by the headlights the sharpshooters would unleash all the fury and fire of hell, in the form of water balloons, upon the target rendering him completely, soaking, wet.

You can check out the video to see what actually happened.

So remember, don't be caught off guard on Sunday July 12th!!! Get Prepared! Be Prepared! Grab your bike, hit the streets and pedal your ass off like you are being chased down my a motorcycle with a sidecar (foreshadowing???).

The After Party, Sponsors, and Volunteers

Not only is The Raleigh Cat going to be the biggest cycling event this summer but the after party is going to make heads and wheels roll.

Ahpeele has been kind enough to let use us his space off Capital Blvd where we will be awarding prizes, dancing, and whatever else we want to do!!!!!!!

Tomorrow June 6th from 9-5 Ahpeele is hosting the Traffic Jam which is a prime opportunity to get some sweet new junk and also get a sneak preview of the after party venue.

We will be posting race sponsors periodically over the next 5 weeks so put in some saddle time so you can have a shot some sweet prizes.

If you are interested in being a volunteer for this event please send your responses to these questions along with a head shot and resume to raleighboysclub@gmail.com

1. Do you like to have a good time, why or why not?

2. On a scale of 1 to fun how would you rate yourself and why?

3. If your type of fun was a cat what breed of cat would it be and why?

Please remember to answer all questions in essay format. Absolutely no more the 3,000 words per question.

Remember to keep checking this blog for race details, upcoming sponsors, and throw down info.
